Vienna’s English Theatre at its best!
We are hoping to inspire a lifelong love of theatre by taking your students to see a variety of exciting plays every year. Find out what some students in 3A thought about "A family Affair" -  their first ever English play:

“On the 4th of October, we watched a play called “A family Affair” about Zainab, a refugee girl from Syria and Danny, an English boy. The story is about how they met and eventually became friends despite all their differences. I loved the play because it was quite modern and I really liked the different characters. I also really liked the part where Zainab acted out her journey to England. I think it was great that all the actors were from England. I loved their accent!” Fiona Gilmore
“My favourite scene was the first one where Danny told us about his school and showed us different types of sports. When I first read the play, I thought that children would play some parts. But when I was at the theatre, I saw that there were only four adults on stage. I was a little bit shocked but I really liked their English accents.” Nicole Mircea
“My class and I went to see “A family Affair”. I thought it was cool and funny. Danny, the boy from England, was really funny and he didn’t like sport. The girl, Zainab from Syria, liked sport, reading, baking cakes and looking after her pet mouse. They were just friends but I wish they had been a couple. Their parents started an affair and then Danny and Zainab became step sister and step brother. I loved the play!” Sara Jelicic
“I think the play was very good and the actors did a great job but the music was a little bit too loud. My favourite character was Mrs Kirkham because she’s so forgetful. My favourite scene was the last one because all the characters were happy. The saddest scenes in the play were the ones where Zanaib’s brother and mother said goodbye and then died or when Zainab gave her mother’s ring to a human trafficker and they heard the voice of Zainab’s dead mother.” Elisa Hawranek
“The play was amazing because there were only four actors who played so many different characters. I also found the costumes great but I really didn’t like the dances because they looked a little bit strange. I can recommend “A family Affair” to teenagers but younger kids might have problems understanding it.” Kimberly Magerl
“It was really cool that there were actually only four people playing more than 10 different roles. They actors looked like they were having fun together and they weren’t shy. I also really liked the story. Luckily the play had a happy ending. One thing that I didn’t like was the loud music. It was way too loud, but everything else was really interesting and cool. I loved it!” Sara Gletthofer
“The play was cool and funny and there was a moment that really touched my heart: When Zainab told her story about Syria and the war, I remembered a few sad moments in my family’s history. I believe we all realised how important family and friends are for all of us. I’m already looking forward to the next English play with my class.” Sara Grgic
